The islands are located approximately 4 km from the coast of the city. They are artificial islands created mostly form dredged sand taken from the shallow coastal areas around the city of Dubai. The islands vary from 14,000 to 42,000 square meters. The average distance between them is 100 meters. 321 cubic meters of sand and 31 million tons of rock consumed in their construction.
